Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population, conducted a field visit to Abbassia Chest Hospital today, Tuesday, as part of his keenness to follow up on the progress of work in the field, and to communicate directly with citizens, to achieve the ministry’s plan to provide comprehensive quality health services.
Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Health and Population, said that the minister began his visit by listening to a detailed presentation about the hospital buildings and departments, human resources and their specialties, as well as attendance rates, where occupancy rates in the internal department reached 72%, and 98% in the care department.
The minister inspected the children’s, reception, and CT scan departments, and during his tour, he directed the preparation of periodic reports and statistics on tuberculosis rates, which will contribute to research in knowing the infection rates and the age groups most susceptible to the disease.
Abdel Ghaffar explained; During his inspection of the hospital departments, the Minister directed to make guide signs to facilitate visitors to quickly reach the departments due to the large area of the hospital. … Abbassia Chest Hospital is one of the first hospitals to start treating drug-resistant tuberculosis since 2006, noting that the hospital consists of 16 buildings with a capacity of 335 beds, including 100 beds for tuberculosis patients, 77 intensive care beds, including 30 intermediate care beds, in addition to 21 beds in the emergency and reception department, including 2 cardiopulmonary resuscitation beds, 2 CT scan machines, an integrated laboratory for diagnosing tuberculosis and chest diseases, a PCR laboratory for detecting viruses, a pathology laboratory for examining tissues, in addition to developing the chest and bronchial endoscopy department. The Minister was accompanied during the visit by Dr. Anwar Ismail, Assistant Minister for National Projects, Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Abdel Ghaffar, Chairman of the General Authority for Hospitals and Educational Institutes, Dr. Peter Wagih, Head of the Therapeutic Medicine Sector, Dr. Mohamed Zidan, Acting Head of the Central Administration for Therapeutic Medicine and Head of Specialized Medical Councils, Dr. Khaled Al-Khatib, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health in Cairo, and Dr. Wagdy Amin, Director General of the Chest Diseases Department.
