Melania Trump was by her husband Donald Trump’s side at the State Funeral Service for former U.S. President Jimmy Carter on Thursday in a modest funeral outfit.
Melania, 54, accompanied the President-elect to the ceremony at the Washington National Cathedral in Washington, D.C.
The incoming first lady was wearing a black Valentino trench dress from fall 2019 with an oversized, dramatic white collar featuring an abstract print of a couple kissing in front of roses and butterflies.
Her husband’s outfit was more subdued, as he was in his customary black suit and a blue tie.
Melania’s long hair, which some have speculated is due to extensions, was swept back in an elegant updo.
The former model is famous for her classic style and has a penchant for designers including Versace, Alexander McQueen, and Dolce & Gabbana.
On Instagram, one woman shared pictures from the ceremony and praised, ‘Elegant. Royalty. Thank the Lord for our Regal First Lady,’ making sure to tag Melania, who has 2.4 million followers.
On X, previously known as Twitter, fans praised Melania’s fashion choices.

However, a few people on social media were left confused by the collar, comparing it to The Handmaid’s Tale and something a Quaker woman would wear.
After President Carter died on December 29 at 100 years old, Trump shared an official statement.
Trump said, ‘The challenges Jimmy faced as President came at a pivotal time for our country and he did everything in his power to improve the lives of all Americans.
‘For that, we all owe him a debt of gratitude.’
‘Melania and I are thinking warmly of the Carter Family and their loved ones during this difficult time. We urge everyone to keep them in their hearts and prayers.’
