Mauritania strongly condemned the assassination of the head of the political bureau of Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh, in the Iranian capital, “Tehran”, last Wednesday.
The Mauritanian government considered – in a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Mauritanians Abroad, broadcast by the official Mauritanian News Agency today, Friday – that the assassination violates all ethical and diplomatic charters and principles; and is likely to undermine the tireless international efforts aimed at putting an end to the series of violence in the Middle East and stopping the war of extermination that the brotherly Palestinian people are being subjected to at the hands of the Israeli occupation.
Mauritania renewed its call on the international community to assume its responsibilities in imposing respect for the requirements of international law and international humanitarian law, and providing the necessary conditions to end the suffering of the brotherly Palestinian people and enable them to obtain their just rights to freedom and independence.
