Matthew Gaudreau’s wife Madeline gives birth to baby boy four months after husband’s tragic death
Four months to the day after Matthew Gaudreau tragically died in a bicycle accident the day before his sister’s wedding, his wife, Madeline Gaudreau, has given birth to a baby boy.
The hockey star, and older brother Johnny Gaudreau, passed away August 29 when an alleged drunk driver struck their bikes from behind while riding on a New Jersey road.
Madeline Gaudreau gave birth to a boy named Tripp on Sunday, posting a photo of her holding his hand at the hospital.
Tripp’s middle name was revealed to be Matthew after his father, with Madeline captioning the post ‘Mommy & Daddy’s world’.
Katie Gaudreau’s wedding was postponed as the family mourned their losses over the summer.
The two were struck and killed by another vehicle, driven by 43-year-old Sean M. Higgins of Woodstown, New Jersey, who is suspected of being under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.
Madeline Gaudreau shared a photo on social media announcing the birth of her son Tripp

In documents seen by DailyMail.com, Higgins admitted to cops that he drank ‘5-6 beers’ before getting behind the wheel of his Jeep Grand Cherokee and crashing into the back of Johnny and Matthew.
The Blue Jackets have already held tributes for the Gaudreau brothers and have more planned throughout the NHL season.
The Gaudreau family has still kept a relatively public profile since Johnny and Matthew’s deaths.
In October, Meredith Gaudreau, Johnny’s wife, posted photos from daughter Noa’s second birthday.
Many Columbus Blue Jackets players attended the 2-year-old’s party in Ohio.
Johnny was 31 and Matthew was 29 at the time of their passing.
Johnny played for 11 seasons in the NHL, with his first nine coming with the Calgary Flames. He made the switch to Columbus starting with the 2022 season.
