MasteChef Laura Sharrad Recalls Encounter With ‘Baby Shamer’

Former MasterChef Australia participant Laura Sharrad has opened up about an encounter her family had that left her feeling “ashamed” and “disgusted”.

In a now-deleted Instagram Post, Sharrad — the runner-up of MasterChef Australia 2014 — recalled the moment a fellow restaurant diner complained about her young family all because her baby, Florence Rosa, was being a little noisy.

“At brekky this morning, a solo diner started huffing and repeating ‘oh no really?!’ and continued to mumble under their breath about Florence loudly as Florence was giggling and playing with her toys,” the TV chef wrote in the now-deleted post which has since been reshared by The Courier Mail.

“Also noting the man behind me giggling at Florence and laughing with her. Not crying, giggling.”

Sharrad then went on to reveal that her husband, Max, went off at the whinging diner, telling them “I’m sorry, she’s not crying, and we’re not trying to make her upset you – she’s a baby”.

“They continued and then marched out of breakfast and made a complaint to the waiter saying our child was screaming and grunting at the table and some bullshit about it being unacceptable in the venue we are in,” the Masterchef Australia star added.

“This was a full-grown adult who was grunting at the waitress trying to impersonate Florence, as the few tables inside at breakfast stared at this person, embarrassed for what a joke of a human they are.”

Sharrad went on to add that a “mortified” waitress came over to apologise. Despite this, the former MasterChef star “couldn’t finish [her] breakfast” as the encounter with the “baby shamer” made her feel sick.

“I felt so ashamed and disgusted at the same time that this person was so disgusted by Florence and her having a jolly old time playing with her giraffe at 7am so we could eat breakfast,” she continued.

“Everyone was [a] baby once, and I don’t want to be rude but don’t come at my daughter … I’m sure that person was a fucking miserable one to be around.”

Per the publication, the reality TV star’s post divided fans, with one person writing “a noisy child in an inappropriate environment is annoying”.

“A giggling baby is the best and certainly can change most people’s miserable moods but clearly not this person … sad day,” one person wrote.

“At the end of the day it’s a restaurant, and a lot of people have a reasonable expectation they can enjoy their meal without the noise of other peoples children,” another fan commented.

Personally, as a 20-something with no partner, no kid, and no savings, I honestly think this is such a petty thing to be so bitter over. It reminds me of people who get salty over a crying baby on a plane! Like, the baby is literally a baby, it’s going to cry, giggle, poop and all of that.

As one smart baddie said: don’t act like your shit don’t stink! You were too a baby once!
