Incredibly, Mary J. Blige, the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul, a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and one of the greatest singers New York has ever produced, has never before headlined the city’s most iconic music venue, Madison Square Garden.
All of that will change on April 10, when the moment finally arrives for her, for the nearly 20,000 lucky people who will be in the sold-out venue, and for an audience all over the world who will be able to watch on the livestreaming platform Veeps.
“Playing at Madison Square Garden has always been a dream of mine,” Blige says. “I mean, it’s every artist’s dream, but I grew up in the Bronx. This is my home. This moment really feels like a homecoming and a truly surreal moment. Playing for the crowd at MSG, and being able to amplify that through this partnership with Veeps, is a dream come true. I want everyone to grab their friends and throw a watch party. Sing and dance and have a blast – this one is all for my fans.”
On that note, the show is the hometown stop on Blige’s acclaimed “For My Fans” tour, a combination of hits and deep cuts that is dedicated to the supporters who have been with her since the beginning. The tour features a career-spanning setlist, intimate storytelling, and surprise guest appearances — and it seems safe to assume that there will be plenty of all three at the hometown show.
