Married At First Sight’s Billy Belcher reveals which groom he ‘broke the rules’ with weekly – and fans are here for this bromance
Married At First Sight is known for its dramatic showdowns, unexpected love stories, and jaw-dropping scandals.
But this season, one of the strongest connections may not be between a bride and groom.
Instead, it’s a full-blown bromance between Billy Belcher and Dave Thomas, and it even saw them breaking the rules on a weekly basis.
Billy, a 31-year-old plasterer from England, and Dave, a 36-year-old caulking business owner dubbed ‘The TikTok Tradie,’ struck up an instant friendship from the moment they met at the bucks’ party.
Now, they’re lifting the lid on their close-knit bond—and the sneaky gym and spa sessions they weren’t supposed to have.
‘We Broke the Rules Every Week!’
From wedding woes to gym bros! Married At First Sight’s Billy Belcher and Dave Thomas have revealed their secret ‘bromance’ and rule-breaking meet-ups during filming
Speaking about their bromance during an interview with Daily Mail Australia, Billy, 31, revealed that he and Dave, 36, secretly met up during filming, despite the show’s strict rules about keeping contestants apart outside of official gatherings

‘We was even going to the gym together at times, which we wasn’t allowed to do, and having little spa dates. Things like that,’ Billy confessed.
‘It was really nice to have someone there for me. And vice versa.’
The English groom admitted that Dave was his rock throughout the process.
‘To have Dave with me throughout the show was so important to me. I had him like a wall that I could bounce off when things got hard – someone just to listen when you needed to chat. He was amazing.’
‘It Was Like Copy and Paste’
Dave also had nothing but praise for Billy, calling him his ‘favourite groom’ of the season.
‘Him and I, throughout the night, connected, looking at each other and pulling faces, and we knew that we’d get along straight away,’ Dave shared.
‘I couldn’t wait to see him when we moved into the apartments. He really was a solid rock for me in that experiment.’

While MAFS is designed to test romantic relationships, the two grooms leaned on each other when times got tough.
‘Look, Billy was there for me in moments that I needed him, and I was there for Billy in moments that he needed me with his relationship and stuff like that,’ Dave added.
‘I think the bromance is going to blossom for sure, and it’s something that I look forward to reliving and seeing happen again.’
‘I Love This Guy!’ – Billy Gets Emotional Over Dave’s Wedding
Billy also opened up about how emotional he got while watching Dave’s wedding back on TV.
‘I can’t lie, I had a cry,’ he admitted.
‘Now look, I know Dave’s a teddy bear, so I knew there was possibly gonna be some kind of emotional side to it. But watching it—God, it hit me. I was there like a blubbery mess. I had to get my tissues out. I was like, ‘Oh no! What am I doing?’
The moment hit even harder for Billy, who shared a similar experience at his own wedding.
‘We didn’t get to see it, but my speech was very strangely similar to Dave’s,’ he revealed.
‘I got upset about my dad as well, so watching it back- yeah, it was emotional. But I’m so proud of him. I think he absolutely smashed it out of the park, and I tell you what—everyone’s gonna love him!’

Drama on the Horizon?
While Billy and Dave are all about positivity, Dave hinted that not all of the grooms got along.
‘I had question marks over a few people,’ he teased. ‘But yeah, you wait till the first two dinner parties unfold, and you’ll see there.’
With tensions already rising among the cast, fans will have to wait and see which grooms are at the centre of the drama.
One thing’s for sure, though—Billy and Dave’s bromance is set to be one of the most wholesome storylines of the season.
Married At First Sight continues Sunday at 7pm on Channel Nine.
