Maoist with ₹25 lakh reward killed in Chhattisgarh

New Delhi: The Chhattisgarh Police along with central forces on Tuesday killed a Maoist committee member carrying a reward of ₹25 lakh and two others, bringing the number of Left-wing extremists killed since the beginning of 2025 to 100.

The encounter took place at around 8 am in a forest along the border of Dantewada and Bijapur districts when a team of security personnel was out on an anti-Maoist operation, police said.

One of the slain Maoists was identified as Sudhir alias Murli, a native of Warangal in Telangana and member of Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee.

Earlier this month, 30 Maoists including 15 women, carrying a reward of ₹1.03 crore, were killed in two separate encounters.

The latest encounter comes ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s expected visit to Chhattisgarh on March 30.

According to Bastar Police, 116 Maoists have been gunned down in separate encounters in the state so far this year.
