Manipur: Militant killed, 6 arrested after police clash; 2 labourers shot dead

Guwahati: An armed militant was killed, and six others were apprehended after a fierce exchange of fire between Manipur Police Commandos and a militant group in Thoubal District on Saturday. Two labourers were shot dead in Kakching districts by unknown miscreants.

In Thoubal, a significant cache of arms and ammunition, along with multiple electronic devices, were also recovered from the spot. A senior police official in Imphal said that armed militants attacked the Manipur Police Commandos at Salungpham Thongkhong during a routine patrol in Thoubal.

The Commando personnel also retaliated nd nabbed six militants while another was injured in the gun battle. The injured cadre uccumbed to his injuries at a private hospital.

Fencing Work
Work of border fencing along Myanmar near Moreh town in the Tengnoupal district has gathered pace. Manipur shares 398 km of international border with Myanmar. Sources said,” BRO has commenced work on erecting the border fencing along the Myanmar border in the general area of Moreh in the Tengnoupal district.”

Sources said presently only 10 km of international border with Myanmar is fenced near Moreh in Manipur.

The 1,643 km porous India-Myanmar border will be fenced at a cost of Rs 31,000 crore.

Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh in August this year stated that 10, 675 illegal immigrants were detected in the state in the last five years.
