Man United coaches are ‘losing patience’ with £72m star who hasn’t scored in his last 16 GAMES

Manchester United coaches are said to be frustrated with the performances of a £72million star after a succession of poor showings for the club.

According to the Manchester Evening News, one United coaching staff member was particularly upset with the quality of the player’s performance in the 1-0 defeat at Tottenham last Sunday.

The individual was also hooked when the Red Devils were 2-0 against Everton on Saturday afternoon – with the team going on to salvage a point following his substitution.

Since Ruben Amorim became manager in November, he has completed 90 minutes just five times and been substituted on ten occasions by the Portuguese coach.

He has also scored just seven goals in all competitions this season, with only two of those coming in the Premier League.

The player has also failed to score in his last 16 games for the club, who are languishing in the bottom half of the table.

While the collective showings of United players have been largely below-par, Rasmus Hojlund appears to be feeling the strain more than most.

The Danish international, 22, was replaced by 17-year-old Chido Obi on Saturday, who was making just his second appearance for the club.

A loud cheer from the travelling contigent of United supporters at Goodison Park greeted Hojlund’s substitution in the 70th minute on Saturday.

This was in stark contrast to the displeasure shown by fans when he was susbtituted on his full debut forthe club against Brighton in September 2023.

Despite frustration with some of his performances, United’s coaching staff are still reportedly encouraging Hojlund during training sessions.

And former club legend Rio Ferdinand also explained why Hojlund may be struggling so much in recent weeks.

Ferdinand advised Hojlund to change his approach if he wants to improve his performances for the Red Devils.

He said: ‘Confidence has obviously left the building in terms of the striker department. They haven’t got great option in terms of numbers either,’ the former defender said ahead of United’s clash with Everton.

‘One of the things with Hojlund, watching him I get frustrated because he’s always trying to fight the defender and have contact.

‘Sometimes release yourself from contact so when you have someone against you it’s easier to take the ball and get into areas where you’ll affect the game, in between the posts and in the box.’

Hojlund moved to Old Trafford from Atalanta in a £72million deal in July 2023, despite United initially saying they not pay more than £60million for him.

Although he had an impressive first season in England by scoring 16 goals, his current showings will need to improve if he is to nail down a starting berth under Amorim.
