Man United ‘agree to offload £375,000-a-week flop’ for the rest of the season – despite the transfer window having closed a week ago
Man United have reportedly agreed to get one of their highest-paid flops off their wage bill in a loan deal – despite the transfer window having closed a week ago.
Business closed for the major European leagues on February 3. However, a number of other leagues remain open for business and that has allowed Man United to work towards reducing costs.
United went about their business cautiously in the January transfer window, as they feel the strain of tight financial constraints and PSR limits.
Despite the club sitting in 13th place in the Premier League and crying out for a proven striker, they signed only Patrick Dorgu, Ayden Heaven, and Diego Leon (pre-contract) – talented, young players bought for the long term without high fees.
Forwards Marcus Rashford and Antony both left the club on loan and now, it seems, the club may have found a home for a third of their highly paid flops.
Flamengo manager Filipe Luis is reportedly interested in bringing Casemiro to Rio de Janeiro with the Brazilian window closing on February 28.

Man United boss Ruben Amorim has picked Casemiro for just 20 minutes in the last five games
‘I can assure you that Flamengo investigated the player’s situation in the last few days,’ said journalist Jorge Nicola.
‘The English club agreed to loan him and help with part of his salary. Filipe Luís would love to count on Casemiro.
‘Flamengo understands that, given all the figures, it is a very risky business. Even though United are willing to help with most of the salary, there would still be a very high amount to be paid.’
Casemiro is one of the highest paid players in the Premier League with a weekly wage of £375,000. So, even if Man United were to retain a high percentage of the 32-year-old’s bill, a loan deal would still be expensive for Flamengo.
It is hugely within United’s interest to get any deal they can over the line, however, with Casemiro offering little more than a drain on resources – having played just 20 minutes for Ruben Amorim’s side in the last five games.
