Man pulls off epic proposal after coming up with elaborate scheme to teach girlfriend how to ice skate
A man has captured the hearts of millions after he detailed the extensive planning that went into pulling off the perfect proposal.
Barrington Dave, 29, from Dallas, Texas, explained on TikTok that he and his girlfriend, Kennedy Kinnard, were planning a trip to New York City during Christmas time.
Barrington realized that the getaway would pose as a great place to pop the question, and set his sights on one of the most romantic spots in the city: the ice skating rink in front of the dazzling Rockefeller tree.
The only problem? Kennedy had no idea how to skate.
But Barrington was determined, and created an elaborate scheme to get her out on the ice.
‘So a couple of months ago, I knew I wanted to propose in front of Rockerfeller tree,’ he wrote in his now-viral video, which has now been viewed 13 million times.
‘I knew Kennedy couldn’t skate so I needed to get her on skates before we went to New York City.’
Barrington explained that he asked Kennedy to go on an ice skating date with him ‘months’ before the trip so that he could get a feel for how good or bad she really was on the ice.

Barrington Dave, 29, from Dallas, Texas, explained on TikTok that that he wanted to propose to his girlfriend, Kennedy Kinnard, on the ice skating rink in front of the dazzling Rockefeller tree
‘One Sunday I told her I wanted to ice skate to see if my goal was achievable. We got off to a rough start but after a bit of time on the ice I felt confident [enough] in her ability on skates to book the rink at the Rockerfeller Center,’ he continued.
When the big day came, Barrington revealed that the weather was ‘terrible’ and Kennedy was reluctant to ice skate.
He was thankfully able to convince her to ‘do a couple laps,’ and ‘stalled’ as the workers got the ice cleared for them.
‘The weather was truly a fiasco,’ he said. ‘Kennedy wanted to get off the ice ASAP, I just kept stalling until they cleared the ice for us. All of the practice came down to this moment.’
Barrington said that Kennedy did not want to let go of the wall, but he was determined to propose in the center of the ice.
‘I just wanted to get us to the center of the ice. The whole time I just [kept saying], “Kennedy it’s fine, you’re not going to fall,”‘ he recalled.
He finally got Kennedy to come with him, and he got down on one knee and asked her to marry him as an array of onlookers watched on.
She said yes, and the crowds erupted in cheers.

‘Everything worked out perfectly. I’m glad I trusted my gut,’ Barrington concluded.
While speaking to the New York Post about it, Kennedy said she was blown away by her now-fiance’s actions.
‘Once I figured out what was going on, I was like, “Wow, he put all of this thought and effort into it.” It was just so, so touching,’ she gushed. ‘It was absolutely perfect.’
She jokingly added, ‘I did not have a clue it was happening that day… I had a pimple patch on.’
