A man has died while trying to save two children caught in a rip on Western Australia’s south coast.
A man in his 40s was pulled from the water on Tuesday afternoon at Native Dog Beach, between located approximately 10km south of Bremer Bay between Albany and Esperance.
The incident occurred around 2.10pm as two children were reportedly caught in a rip current.
The man was reportedly one of four adults who ran into the water trying to save the children.
‘One of the people who entered the water — a man aged in his 40s — became unresponsive,’ a WA Police spokesperson said.
‘He was carried to shore by others and members of the public commenced providing emergency first aid.’
The man was taken to Bremer Bay Nursing Post, but was declared dead.
The children, and the three other adults, all managed to get back to shore safely.

Just 30 minutes before the Bremer Bay incident, a teenage boy also drowned at a public lake in Perth’s east.
WA Police confirmed a 17-year-old had died at Lake Leschenaultia in Chidlow on Tuesday afternoon.
Swimmers at the lake described hearing the boy screaming for help, but those who came to his aid struggled to find him under the water.
Lake Leschenaultia is a popular family swimming spot.
