Heavily-armed specialist police officers have descended on a suburb in Sydney’s southwest.
A SWAT team, Dog Squad, PolAir, specialist paramedics and armoured BearCat vehicle were spotted on Andrew’s Rd in Varroville early Tuesday morning.
New South Wales Police urged the public to avoid the suburb.
It has not provided any further details of the operation.
Photos at the scene showed officers have closed Andrews Rd and covered the surrounding area.
Nearby residents vented their frustration online after being left in the dark on the reason for the large police presence.
One reminded parents to keep their children inside during the operation.
A police helicopter was earlier spotted circling dense bushland in the suburb, leading to speculation police are searching for someone.
Police are expected to issue a statement later Tuesday morning.
More to come.
