Lyon 2-2 Man United – PLAYER RATINGS: How low does Andre Onana rate after his costly errors? Which other Red Devils star had a nightmare? And who struggled to get into the game?

Andre Onana’s pair of errors denied Manchester United a crucial victory over Lyon in the Europa League on Thursday night.
The Cameroonian looked to have escaped major censure for his part in Lyon’s opener after goals from Leny Yoro and Joshua Zirkzee put the Red Devils within minutes of a first-leg lead in the quarter-final.
Ruben Amorim’s men performed admirably to recover from their early setback when Onana flapped at a cross and saw the softly hit delivery bounce over him and into the goal.
But all their efforts were undone in the 95th minute when the keeper – branded as ‘one of the worst in the club’s history’ this week – palmed a close range drive straight into the path of Rayan Cherki to draw Lyon level.
Despite the error, United will take heart from their overall display and will be confident of claiming a win on home soil that would seal progress to semi-final of the competition.

Rayan Cherki scored a 95th minute equaliser to frustrate Manchester United on Thursday night

Joshua Zirkzee looked to have secured a vital victory for the Premier League side with a well-taken header at the far post

In a week when he was branded ‘one of the worst goalkeepers in Man United history’ Andre Onana was at fault for both of Lyon’s goals
MANCHESTER UNITED (3-4-2-1):
Andre Onana – 2
It just had to be him. Stoked the flames before the game with his comments that United are so much better than Lyon before getting into a war of words with Lyon’s Nemanja Matic. So, of course, the pantomime villain of the night had to drop two major clangers to gift Lyon both of their goals.
Since the start of last season, no goalkeeper has made more errors leading to goals for Premier League clubs in all competitions than Onana (9). Do your talking on the pitch.
Noussair Mazraoui – 7
The Moroccan made a number of crucial interceptions as Lyon looked to capitalise on their goal and United were grateful for his stellar reading of the game.
Harry Maguire – 6
Was a complete nuisance on attacking set-pieces for Lyon and he was also able to use his physicality when defending them to keep United out of trouble for the most part. Diligently went about his business while doing little wrong.
Leny Yoro – 7
Is continuing to grow and grow in a Manchester United shirt and popped up with a vital headed goal right on the stroke of half-time to change the complexion of the contest. Showed his confidence midway through the second half when he ran from his own half to have a shot on goal from the edge of the Lyon box.

Diogo Dalot – 6
Improved from the weekend as he showed much more attacking intent. Had a good battle down his side with Tagliafico but more than held his own. Some of his crosses deserved better finishes, too. Booked.
Casemiro – 5.5
Just never felt like he managed to get into this game with the midfield an error-strewn department for both sides. European games have largely suited him better of late but his influence was minimal when they needed more from him here.
Manuel Ugarte – 6.5
This was a mixed bag of a display because at times he looked so serene in making interceptions to send his attackers clear before making a nonsensical decision to find himself scampering back the other way. It was his clipped ball in that Yoro nodded in to equalise at 1-1. Booked.
Patrick Dorgu – 6
Should have teed up the opening United goal early on, only for Rasmus Hojlund to fluff his lines free inside the box. Looked to lose a bit of belief as the game wore on when he realised he would not be able to beat Ainsley Maitland-Niles for pace.
Bruno Fernandes – 6.5
Cut a frustrated figure with team-mates during a largely difficult and testing first half with United failing to find their feet. As is so often the case he looks like one of the only players Amorim can rely on to try and inject some life into a game when the tempo fell off. Got the key assist for Zirkzee late on.

Alejandro Garnacho – 5
His pace always offered a threat on the counter-attack but when that opportunity finally presented itself with around 20 minutes to go he overhit the final pass to Fernandes which sort of summed up his attacking output this season. His final decision is wrong more often than it’s right.
Rasmus Hojlund – 4
A nightmare display. Fluffed a really good chance in the box in the first half when Dorgu burst free to cut it back for him. Then seemed to have little to no self belief as his press waned and his runs sent him intro traffic rather than space. Managed 11 touches of the ball before he was the first player hooked off by Amorim.
MANAGER: Ruben Amorim – 6.5
Looked to be finding himself in the eye of the storm but as is so often the case his substitutions paid off handsomely. Don’t bet on Hojlund starting ahead of Hojlund at the weekend against Newcastle United after his divine intervention late on.
