Julia Roberts and director Luca Guadagnino are teaming up on “After the Hunt,” a thriller set at Amazon MGM.
According to the official logline, the movie follows Roberts as a college professor who “finds herself at a personal and professional crossroads when a star pupil levels an accusation against one of her colleagues.” As she navigates the difficult situation, “a dark secret from her own past threatens to come to light.” Additional cast members will be announced at a later date.
First-time screenwriter Nora Garrett wrote the script and will executive produce with Karen Lunder for Imagine Entertainment. Imagine Entertainment executives Brian Grazer and Allan Mandelbaum are producing the film with Guadagnino on behalf of his company Frenesy.
Guadagnino, the Oscar-nominated filmmaker of “Call Me by Your Name” and the upcoming tennis love-triangle drama “Challengers,” is staying busy. He’s also directing “Separate Rooms,” an adaptation of the novel by the late Italian writer Pier Vittorio Tondelli. Josh O’Connor, who stars in “Challengers,” is in talks to lead the cast of “Separate Rooms,” a wistful drama about an Italian writer who mourns the loss of his boyfriend.
“Challengers,” also featuring Zendaya and Mike Faist, will be released on April 26. His Mexico-set romantic drama “Queer,” starring Daniel Craig as an American expat who becomes infatuated with a younger man, is expected to premiere at Venice Film Festival later this year.
Roberts, who ruled the box office in the ’90s with romantic comedies like “Pretty Woman,” “Notting Hill” and “My Best Friend’s Wedding,” most recently led the cast of Netflix’s post-apocalyptic thriller “Leave the World Behind.”
All parties are represented by CAA. Guadagnino is also repped by Range and Goodman Genow. Roberts is repped by Hirsch Wallenstein. Garrett is also repped by Fourth Wall Management and Yorn Levine.
