Lower East Side crash: Suspect to appear in court for July 4 crash that killed 4 people during barbecue
LOWER EAST SIDE, Manhattan (WABC) — The man accused of driving into a crowd on Manhattan’s Lower East Side on July 4 is also expected to appear in court Thursday.
Daniel Hyden, 44, was allegedly driving drunk when he plowed into a group of people at a barbecue, killing four people and injuring seven others.
It was at Jackson and Water streets on July 4 that a pickup truck plowed into a celebrating crowd, killing the victims and injuring nearly a dozen more.
The pain was still fresh as hundreds of people gathered to mourn and send well-wishes at a vigil last month.
Hyden has been charged with numerous counts of involuntary manslaughter and is being held without bail.
According to police, Hyden was driving with a suspended license for failing to respond to a citation four times on three separate dates.
A police official estimates Hyden, of South Brunswick, New Jersey, was driving about 40 mph.
