Local Development and Arab Industrialization sign a contract to raise the efficiency of 9 solid waste garages in Gharbia, Kafr El-Sheikh, and Dakahlia.

Dr. Manal Awad, Minister of Local Development, and Major General Engineer Mukhtar Abdel Latif, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Arab Organization for Industrialization, witnessed today the signing of a contract to rehabilitate and raise the efficiency of 9 garages in the municipal solid waste system as part of the activities of the national project to improve water quality in the Kitchener Drain in the governorates of Gharbia, Dakahlia, and Kafr El-Sheikh, at a cost. It is estimated at approximately 4.46 million euros.

 

The contract was signed by Dr. Hisham Al-Helbawy, Assistant Minister of Local Development for National Projects, and Major General Ibrahim Mahrous, Executive Director of the Arab Company for Real Estate and Tourism Projects, affiliated with the Arab Organization for Industrialization  This was in the presence of Dr. Khaled Qassem, Assistant Minister of Local Development for Institutional Development and Policy Support, Ahmed Atef, Director of the Solid Waste Unit in the Ministry, Dr. Abdo Mohamedin, Director of the Kitchener Bank Development Project, and a number of leaders of the Ministry of Local Development and the Arab Organization for Industrialization.

The Minister of Local Development indicated that the contract to develop mechanical garages and campaigns in the governorates of Gharbia, Dakahlia, and Kafr El-Sheikh, which was signed today, is an important step towards achieving the goals of the project to improve water quality in the Kitchener Bank, in implementation of the directives of the political leadership and the Prime Minister’s assignments to quickly complete this important project for the residents of the three governorates, noting that This ambitious project is considered one of the largest environmental and development projects in Egypt, and reflects the Egyptian government’s commitment to protecting our natural resources and improving the surrounding environment, through which we aim to improve waste management. solid, reducing pollution, and promoting public health.

 

Dr. Manal Awad said that developing mechanical garages and drives within the solid waste system in the three governorates will contribute significantly to raising the efficiency of the waste collection and transportation system, and enhance our ability to implement waste recycling operations in more efficient and sustainable ways. It is also part of a broader vision aimed at empowering the governorates. To improve its services and raise citizens’ awareness of the importance of integrated solid waste management.

 

The Minister of Local Development also directed the importance of adhering to the timelines for implementing the contract that was signed today and completing all work according to the best quality, pointing to the good cooperation between the Ministry and the Arab Organization for Industrialization and its companies to implement many projects, especially the municipal solid waste system.

In this context, Major General Mukhtar Abdul Latif praised  The Chairman of the Arab Organization for Industrialization, in serious cooperation with the Ministry of Local Development in implementing the mandates of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to continue the efforts made to activate the new system for managing municipal solid waste, in light of the paramount importance that the state attaches to improving the environmental, health and living conditions of citizens, and reducing pollution rates, as well as establishing… A national industry for waste management and providing new job opportunities, pointing out that the established plan achieves sustainability and continuity. It has positive repercussions on the state’s sustainable development plan and Egypt’s Vision 2030.

 

Major General Mukhtar Abdul Latif stated that the contract that was signed today is within the framework of the Kitchener Bank disinfection project, which the Arab Organization for Industrialization won to implement in cooperation with the Ministry of Local Development, and financing  The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the European Union.

 

The head of the Arab Organization for Industrialization added that the rehabilitation of garages is carried out in accordance with all standard and environmental conditions and specifications, taking into account the civilized appearance, in an attractive modern manner, and with the advanced capabilities of the Arab Organization for Industrialization.

 

It is worth noting that the Ministry of Local Development is implementing a project to improve water quality in the Kitchener Drain (solid waste component), which is an integrated project for managing the solid waste management system in the governorates of Dakahlia, Gharbia, and Kafr El-Sheikh, which in turn is integrated with the solid waste management system that is implemented in the governorates of the Republic to achieve The strategic vision of the Egyptian state for solid waste management.

 

This project is financed by a loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development worth 79 million euros and a grant from the European Union worth 8 million euros and is implemented by the Ministry of Local Development, where the solid waste component implemented by the Ministry is integrated with the rest of the components (sanitation – and raising the efficiency of the bank), which is implemented by the Ministry Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities and the Ministry of Water Resources aim to reduce water pollution in the drain, which is one of the longest drains in Egypt, with a length of 69 km.
