Liverpool fans think they’ve found the perfect Trent Alexander-Arnold replacement as they bombard Bundesliga star on social media: ‘Got his Scouse accent perfect already!’

Liverpool fans have bombarded a Bundesliga right-back on social media, urging him to move to the club, as Trent Alexander-Arnold edges closer to completing a free transfer to Real Madrid.

On Tuesday, Mail Sport reported that Los Blancos remain confident of signing Alexander-Arnold this summer – with sources in Spain suggesting the move is ‘all set and done’.

With the defender out of contract in the summer – alongside Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah – he has continually been linked with the Spanish giants.

And while sources close to Liverpool suggest that they have had no indication yet that any deal has been completed, the news that Alexander-Arnold is close to a move to the Spanish capital sent social media into a frenzy.

Reds fans were left fuming at their homegrown defender as they look set to lose a critical cog in Arne Slot’s machine.

However, the Anfield faithful have seemingly already turned their attention to Bayer Leverkusen full-back Jeremie Frimpong in their bid to find the perfect replacement for Alexander-Arnold.

On Tuesday it was reported that Trent Alexander-Arnold is edging closer to joining Real Madrid

Frimpong, who is a Manchester City academy graduate, has been one of Europe’s most formidable right-backs over the last 18 months at Leverkusen.

Ordinarily utilised as a wing-back in Xabi Alonso’s system, the Dutchman netted nine goals and provided seven assists in Leverkusen’s maiden Bundesliga title triumph last campaign.

And while his numbers are lower this season – he has four goals and five assists in the league – Liverpool supporters have taken to social media to try persuade the Dutch international to join the club.

Following a post in which Frimpong mocks an influencer for his extreme morning routine, Reds fans flooded his comment section asking him to join the club.

‘We need a right-back mate, can you fill in?,’ one wrote, while another replied to the post: ‘I’ve seen enough. Join the Reds’.

Some supporters seemingly believe the position would be Frimpong’s to fill, as one wrote: ‘Come to Liverpool, there’s a vacancy’.

During the international break, a video posted on the Netherlands national team’s YouTube account showcased Frimpong greeting Liverpool star Ryan Gravenberch.

The full-back, who reportedly has a £33million release clause, displayed his finest impression of a Scouse accent as he hugged the Reds midfielder, and supporters lapped it up.

‘Jeremie Frimpong, the future Scouser in our team? I mean he the potential and comes with a release clause of €40M,’ wrote one Liverpool fan account.

If Frimpong were to make the move to Merseyside, he would face serious competition from a certain Northern Irishman.

Many see the current heir to the right-back position, if it indeed does become vacant, as Conor Bradley. The 21-year-old has regularly stepped up when Alexander-Arnold has been absent from the team.

Whether Frimpong ends up donning red or not, Alexander-Arnold’s potential departure will still be a significant blow to Liverpool, if it comes to fruition.

Not only has he risen through the ranks, but he is viewed as one of the best full-backs in the world. After joining their academy at the age of six, the defender made his debut as an 18-year-old in an EFL Cup tie against Tottenham in 2018.

He has since gone on to rack up 349 appearances and has been a cornerstone in Liverpool’s immense success over recent years.

Across his time at Anfield, Alexander-Arnold has scored 22 goals and added 87 assists. Meanwhile, the defender – who has won eight trophies with his boyhood club – was appointed as vice-captain in the summer of 2023.

Mail Sport had reported back in December that Real were certain Alexander-Arnold would be their man and were planning for life with the England international in their team.

That confidence has only intensified since then, although sources close to Liverpool do suggest that they have had no indication yet that any deal has been completed.

Real Madrid have been legally permitted to talk to Alexander-Arnold since January 1 — and have been doing so — as his contract at Anfield expires in June.

Mail Sport understands those in the Spanish capital have long expected Alexander-Arnold to join but Florentino Perez was keen to respect Liverpool so did not want to make any news public.

But sources in Madrid reckon completing a move is now a matter of a formality at this stage.
