Liverpool dealt huge injury blow as in-form Ibrahima Konate leaves the field in AGONY during win over Brighton – with defender forced to use his shirt as a makeshift sling

Liverpool have been dealt another injury blow after Ibrahima Konate limped off at half-time against Brighton with an apparent arm issue.

The defender was assisted off the pitch by two members of the Reds’ medical team and appeared in serious discomfort while using his shirt as a makeshift sling.

Konate was given treatment as the players walked off the pitch at the break and gingerly climbed to his feet before hobbling down the Anfield tunnel.

He did not remerge for the second half with Joe Gomez, who was spotted undergoing an intensive warm-up during the interval, taking his place.

The centre back’s involvement was brought to a premature end after he slipped and landed awkwardly while looking to attack a Liverpool corner.

Footage showed him grimacing in agony and seemingly on the verge of tears as he was helped toward the touchline, a major headache for head coach Arne Slot.

Slot is already without Alisson, Diogo Jota and Federico Chiesa with the trio all ruled out of action until after the international break later this month.

Konate may now be a doubt for the Reds’ Champions League game against Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday and he is expected to undergo scans.

The exact nature of the injury has not been confirmed.

The 25-year-old, who moved to Anfield from RB Leipzig in 2021, has started all but one Premier League game this season.
