Lee Carsley provides an update on Ben White’s England future following victory over Finland – after the Arsenal defender was again absent for the Three Lions

Lee Carsley has provided an update on Ben White’s future in international football.

The 26-year-old has long being recognised as one of England’s most talented full-backs but has made just four senior appearances for the Three Lions, with the most recent of those coming more than two years ago.

White travelled as part of Gareth Southgate’s squad for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar but departed the tournament prematurely citing personal reasons.

It was later reported that the Arsenal star had taken offence to a comment made by Southgate’s assistant Steve Holland, though this has never been confirmed.

Southgate’s departure following England’s Euro 2024 heartbreak appeared to open the door for a potential return to the national team for White with Carsley assuming the role on an interim basis.

However, White’s self-imposed exile does not appear to be ending any time soon.

After a 2-0 win over Finland continued Carsley’s perfect start to life as England boss he revealed that White has once again asked not be contacted regarding selection.

Asked about White’s future he told reporters: ‘I’ve not planned to talk to Ben White.

‘We spoke about this in the squad selection. Every player that’s eligible to play for England is in with a chance. As far as I’m aware, he has asked to be not contacted.’

White missed just one Premier League game last season as Mikel Arteta’s side took the title race to the final day before narrowly missing out to Manchester City.

The Gunners will look to continue their unbeaten start to the campaign when they travel to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the first north London derby of the season on Sunday.
