Kylian Mbappe reveals advice from Cristiano Ronaldo as he equals Real Madrid legend’s debut season goal tally after brace against Leganes

Kylian Mbappe has revealed that he often receives words of advice from Cristiano Ronaldo while expressing his pride at matching the amount of goals the Portuguese managed in his first season at Real Madrid.

Mbappe bagged a brace as Madrid kept the pressure on LaLiga leaders Barcelona with a 3-2 win over Leganes on Saturday night.

He opened the scoring with an audacious Panenka penalty before netting the winner with his maiden free kick in professional football.

The second goal made it 33 in 44 appearances in all competitions this season, seeing him reach a notable milestone.

33 is the amount of goals that Ronaldo managed in his debut campaign at the Bernabeu, though he did so in just 35 games due to an ankle injury which saw him miss the best part of two months.

Speaking after the game which saw draw level on points with Barcelona, Mbappe told Real Madrid TV: ‘it’s very special… to have the same number of goals as Cristiano is always good.

‘We know what he means for Real Madrid and me, we speak, he gives me a lot of advice, he scored many goals – but we have to win trophies here.’

Mbappe received plenty of criticism after a slow start to the season but has silenced his doubters with his performances since the turn of the year.

The Frenchman has scored 16 goals in his last 16 league games and now there is only one player in the history of the club who has netted more times in his first season.

Ivan Zamorano managed 37 goals in 45 appearances when he joined the club in 1992 and you’d have to imagine that only injury can stop Mbappe breaking his record.
