In a statement, Dmitry Peskov, the spokesperson for the Russian presidency, commented on reports regarding the transfer of troops from North Korea to Russia, noting that this information is contradictory. Peskov directed such questions to the Russian Ministry of Defense, emphasizing that this matter falls within their jurisdiction.
He highlighted that North Korea is a close neighbor and partner of Russia, and the Russian authorities are seeking to develop their relationship with Pyongyang in all areas. Peskov stated, “This is our sovereign right, and it should not raise concerns, as cooperation between the two countries is not directed against third countries.” He pointed out that there is much contradictory information in this regard, with South Korea stating one thing and the Pentagon another, which necessitates a cautious approach to these reports.
In a related context, South Korea previously announced that North Korea is transferring troops to Russia, which may be used in the special military operation. On October 18, South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol held an emergency meeting to discuss security issues, where the “movement of North Korean troops to Russia” was addressed. The president emphasized that Seoul has been monitoring rumors of the deployment of North Korean troops to Russia “from the very beginning.”
He stressed that South Korea will not remain idle in this situation. According to him, the authorities will be ready to take necessary measures if needed to respond to any developments arising from this situation.
The recent developments in the relationships between North Korea and Russia come amid growing regional tensions, raising concerns for many countries, particularly in light of the current geopolitical and security changes. In this context, analyses regarding the nature of the relations between Moscow and Pyongyang remain a point of interest, especially given the varying opinions among the involved countries, which complicates the situation in the region.
These statements from the Kremlin come at a sensitive time, as cooperation between Russia and North Korea is viewed as having a significant impact on regional security dynamics, placing neighboring countries in a state of ongoing alert.
