Kosovo bans cryptocurrency mining

After the ban on cryptocurrency mining at the end of December, the authorities in Kosovo are cracking down on those who abandoned mining equipment. Particular attention is paid to the northern regions inhabited mainly by Serbs who do not pay for electricity.

A ban on mining against the background of the energy crisis, was urgently imposed throughout the country to provide electricity.

Police said authorities have confiscated 272 devices used to mine cryptocurrency. One person was arrested.

Police also carried out operations in other parts of the country.

The mining ban was imposed just one month after Kosovo drafted a cryptocurrency law that was to be passed by the end of 2021.
