Netflix has revealed a trailer for its hit Korean mystery series “Gyeongseong Creature” ahead of the upload of its second season on Sept. 27.
The first season was set in 1945, during the Japanese occupation of Seoul, then known as Gyeongseong. The Imperial Army’s biological experiments on human were not only cruel, they unleashed a monster creature.
The second season jumps to present day Seoul and follows Chae-ok (portrayed by Han So-hee) who encounters Ho-jae (Park Seo-jun), who bears an uncanny resemblance to the man she once knew in 1945.
It also introduces two key new characters. One is Seung-jo, a shadowy operative for Jeonseung Biotech – formerly the Ongseong Hospital in Season 1, who is portrayed by Bae Hyeon-seong (“Our Blues,” “Hospital Playlist”).
The other, portrayed by Lee Mu-saeng (“The Glory,” “The Silent Sea”) is a character who crafts a sinister plan in the labs of Jeonseung Biotech to recreate the experiments from 1945.
The show is directed by Chung Dong-yoon from a script by Kang Eun-kyung. Production is by Story&Pictures Media, part of Kakao Entertainment and co-produced by CJ ENM’s Studio Dragon.
The first season was released at the end of 2023 and spent four weeks in the streamer’s global top ten TV (non-English) list and reached the top ten national lists in 69 countries.
The streamer’s other returning Korean scripted content this year includes: a third and final season of “Sweet Home,” released in July and “Hellbound S2,” “Zombieverse S2” and “Squid Game S2” all upcoming. In the unscripted segment it also has a new season of “Physical 100.”
