Khloé Kardashian has just opened up about the sad reason she turned to exercise in place of therapy, after her therapist allegedly spilled her secrets to tabloid media.
In a revealing new interview, the Kardashians star admitted she started hitting the gym during her divorce from Lamar Odom, after a “jarring” experience with her therapist.
“I was going to therapy and the next thing I knew, something private I told my therapist was on a tabloid. And I knew that my therapist disclosed this information to a tabloid because there’s no way this could have gotten out there,” Khloé told Bustle.
“So I stopped going to therapy and started going to the gym. I needed a release, but I did not trust anybody else anymore. And the place that I felt the safest was the gym.”
The reality TV star claimed she didn’t set out to change her appearance when starting her fitness journey, but her body began to change “as a byproduct”.
“I loved testing myself and challenging myself. And I’ve been doing it for 10-plus years now, and I love it,” she added.
While Khloé’s relationship with therapy was strained — she called it a “jarring and sort of unbelievable” experience — she’s been seeing a therapist regularly since she turned 39.
“It’s actually Kim’s therapist. Kim was really adamant,” she said.
“I was like, ‘I’ll do this for you’. I dragged my feet, and then I was like, ‘Wow, okay, this is good. I needed this’. And my therapist was like… ‘You really need to be here’. It all worked out.”
The Good American founder has found herself focusing on what she really wants out of life, a process she calls “shedding”.
“Intentionally, at 39, I tried to close a lot of chapters. I called it shedding — shedding this decade of my 30s and this energy I wanted to leave behind. There are so many times that I’m doing in my first year of 40 that I know for a fact my 40s and on are going to be fucking incredible,” she said.
It sounds like therapy has been a lifesaver for the star, considering her personal life is constantly under a microscope. I just wish it was more accessible for everybody!
