Karoline Leavitt torches Dems supporting taxpayer-funded sex changes as Trump purges trans from women’s sports
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt made a bold claim Wednesday, saying Democrats were backing taxpayer dollars going to ‘sex changes in Guatemala’ while giving disaster victims in North Carolina and California nothing.
Leavitt made her third appearance in the briefing room and concluded the 34-minute back-and-forth with reporters with the ‘sex change’ scold.
It comes the same day President Donald Trump will sign an executive order that aims to bar trans athletes from women’s sports.
Democrats, Leavitt said, ‘are out there pretending to be outraged about the long list of crap that this administration is cutting.’
‘Federal waste and funding like $2 million for sex changes in Guatemala, $6 million to fund tourism in Egypt. A new Sesame Street show in Iraq, $4.5 million to combat disinformation in Kazakhstan,’ she said, reading from a piece of paper she had brought to the podium.
‘I could go on and on and I’m happy to provide this list to every single one of you,’ she told the crush of reporters who have again packed the briefing room since Trump was sworn-in two weeks and two days ago.
Trump’s 27-year-old press secretary argued that American taxpayers wanted their money to go to good uses ‘not like stuff like this.’
‘But they’re very quiet about the fact that there are still North Carolinians and people in California who have lost everything and in the last four years the federal government did nothing to help them,’ Leavitt said.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt shows the press a list of government expenditures she says Democrats are for – while they’re not helping North Carolina and California disaster victims
Historically Democrats have had no qualms with approving disaster aid bills in Congress.
Some recently have warned that they don’t like House Speaker Mike Johnson’s plans to condition federal disaster aid on things like ‘water resource management,’ a complaint Trump has continually made about California, a blue state.
Trump will meet with California Gov. Gavin Newsom at the White House later Wednesday.
On his trip to North Carolina and California, Trump tried to tie federal disaster assistance to forcing California to approve a voter ID law, which would be a state issue.
Democrats have been aghast with some of the moves Elon Musk and his team have made at DOGE, the Department of Government Efficiency.
There have been a flurry of protests over Musk’s takeover and potential closure of the United States Agency for International Development.
The Trump White House wants to shove USAID under the State Department, appointing Secretary of State Marco Rubio as the acting director.
The actions have left thousands of USAID employees and the agency’s vast network of contractors in a lurch – with some even marooned in war zones.
President Donald Trump will sign an executive order on Wednesday that bans ‘biological men’ from women’s sports – which has become a potent culture war topic on the Republican side
Leavitt and Musk have pointed to some of the more outlandish expenditures.
They both highlighted how the government was paying for subscriptions of Politico Pro – saying those would be immediately canceled.
‘So upon coming out here to the briefing room, I was made aware of the funding from USAID to media outlets, including Politico, who I know has a seat in this room,’ Leavitt said at Wednesday’s briefing.
‘And I can confirm that more than $8 million taxpayer dollars that have gone to essentially subsidizing subscriptions to Politico on the American taxpayer dime will no longer be happening,’ she told the press.
Leavitt also previewed Trump’s executive order signing later Wednesday that would bar ‘biological men’ from women’s sports.
She said the order, which removes trans women from athletics, would help ‘restore common sense to our country.’
‘The president will be signing an executive order keeping men out of women’s sports to defend the safety of athletes, protect competitive integrity and uphold the promise of Title IV,’ Leavitt said.
‘This common sense action for President Trump ends the disgusting betrayal of women and girls by the previous administratioon who, for years, catered to radical activists who wanted biological males to be treated as women in workplace, showers, competitive sports, prisons and even rape shelters,’ she continued.
‘Gender ideology insanity is over,’ Leavitt proclaimed.
