Kansas City Chiefs given Rashee Rice injury boost after wide receiver undergoes surgery on knee problem

Rashee Rice underwent surgery on his knee injury Tuesday but the Chiefs wide receiver did not need repairs to his ACL, MCL or meniscus.

Rice needed to be carted off the field following an accidental collision with Patrick Mahomes during Kansas City’s win over the Los Angeles Chargers last month.

Head coach Andy Reid admitted the injury was ‘not good’ immediately after the game at SoFi Stadium, with the receiver placed on injury reserve last week.

Before Monday night’s win over the Saints, it emerged that the injury is set to keep Rice out for the rest of the NFL season.

But there was nevertheless positive news for the back-to-back Super Bowl champions. According to NFL Network, surgeons did not have to repair crucial ligaments or cartilage.

Rice was hurt moments after Mahomes threw an interception. The quarterback collided with Rice’s leg in the Chief’s 17-10 win over the Chargers.

ESPN reported ahead of Monday Night Football that, following consultation with doctors, there was optimism in Kansas City that Rice’s injury was not as serious as first feared.

He went under the knife on Tuesday amid hopes that his return date would be far earlier than originally thought.

Without Rice, the Chiefs continued their perfect start to the season with a 26-13 win over the Saints at Arrowhead.
