Doug Emhoff’s mother and father posted a video to social media that included a cringe-worthy poem they composed for daughter-in-law Kamala Harris’ 60th birthday.
Michael Emhoff and Barbara Emhoff, who raised Doug in New Jersey, have previously appeared on a Seniors for Harris event for the vice president’s campaign.
On Sunday, while Harris celebrated by singing with Stevie Wonder at a church event, the in-laws sent her what they described as a ‘beautiful’ poem called ‘Sixty Stars for Kamala.’
‘Sixty years of laughter, sixty years of grace, a guiding light with a smiling face,’ Barbara began.
‘From courtroom halls to Senate floors, a voice of justice forever endures.’

Michael then continued: ‘With every step you’ve shown your might, inspiring hope, turning wrongs to right. Heartbeat strong through every trial, carving paths with courage and style.’
‘For each candle’s glow, a wish so bright for all the lives you’ve helped ignite,’ Barbara picked up again.
‘Here’s to sixty more dreams so grand, with love and warmth held in your hand,’ she finished.
They then wished her a happy birthday from ‘your loving in-laws, Mike and Barb.’
Social media immediately picked up on how over-the-top the poem was and how the scripted video looked like a hostage clip.
‘Blink twice if you are being held hostage to say this…,’ wrote one user.
Another said: ‘The most cringe thing I’ve seen all day to be honest.’
‘Even her in laws are scripted,’ added another, comparing them to Harris’ public appearances.

Since Kamala Harris was appointed by Democrats as the presidential nominee to replace Joe Biden, Emhoff has been more visible.
Emhoff spoke about his family after the Daily Mail reported morning that he had an affair with his children’s nanny and got her pregnant during his first marriage with Kerstin Emhoff.
Emhoff, 59, and movie producer ex-wife Kerstin, 57, ended their 16-year marriage in 2009 when she discovered the affair, according to sources.
The second gentleman responded to news of the affair in a public statement first released to CNN.
‘During my first marriage, Kerstin and I went through some tough times on account of my actions,’ Emhoff said in a statement to CNN regarding his first wife, Kerstin Emhoff.
‘I took responsibility, and in the years since, we worked through things as a family and have come out stronger on the other side.’
Emhoff met Harris in 2013 when she was the California Attorney General and the couple got married in 2014.
