Juan Soto has ‘begun eliminating teams’ as Yankees, Dodgers, Red Sox and Mets fight for $600m man

Juan Soto is narrowing down his options as some of the biggest organizations in baseball continue the $600million fight for his signature.

Both New York teams, the Boston Red Sox and Toronto Blue Jays are battling alongside the Los Angeles Dodgers to sign the slugger, who hit 41 home runs for the Yankees in the 2024 regular season before entering free agency.

His agent, Scott Boras, has confirmed that the 26-year-old has started to rule teams out of his decision while The Athletic have reported that every offer Soto has received is over the $600m mark.

‘When you’re going through these things, he’s just got a lot of information to meld through,’ Boras said.

‘We’ve had meetings with a number of franchises. He’s begun the process of eliminating teams and doing things.

‘Juan is a very methodical thinker, so we’ll see, but I don’t think anything is imminent in the near future.’

Quite what Boras defines as ‘near future’ remains to be seen but it has been previously claimed that Soto could announce his choice in the middle of next week.

Boras was talking Tuesday at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, where the World Series winners unveiled another of his clients in pitcher Blake Snell, who signed a five-year, $182million deal with the team.

Soto is expected to sign a deal lasting around 12 years, with teams across baseball viewing him as a generational talent.

The Yankees are desperate to retain him and extend his partnership in the lineup alongside Aaron Judge.

Many have said that their crosstown rival, the Mets, are favorites for Soto with owner Steve Cohen refusing to be outbid for the left hander.

The Boston Red Sox and Toronto Blue Jays, both American League East rivals to the Yankees, are also surprise contenders.

The Red Sox are pushing hard for Soto while the Blue Jays were ready to rival the Dodgers for Shohei Ohtani.

If the Dodgers swoop for Soto, it would make them overwhelming favorites to win the World Series once again.

They have already bolstered their roster with Snell joining the pitching rotation and Ohtani is expected to be back on the mound in 2025, too.
