Johnny Depp & Penélope Cruz ‘Day Drinker’ Unveils First Photo; Four Added To Cast Of Lionsgate & 30WEST Pic

Lionsgate has revealed the first photo of 3x Oscar nominee Johnny Deep from his reteam feature Day Drinker with Penélope Cruz. Cameras are rolling on the Marc Webb directed movie in Spain and they’ve added four news actors: Manu Ríos, Arón Piper, Juan Diego Botto and Anika Boyle.

Day Drinker tells the story of a private-yacht bartender (Madelyn Cline) who encounters a mysterious, onboard guest (Johnny Depp). They soon find themselves entangled with a criminal figure (Penélope Cruz) and connected in ways no one saw coming. The project reps the fourth time that Depp and Cruz starred together after Blow, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tidesand Murder on the Orient Express.

Day Drinker is produced by Thunder Road’s Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee, who produce the John Wick franchise for Lionsgate, Adam Kolbrenner, producer of The Tomorrow War, Free Guyand Prisonersand Zach Dean, who also wrote the original screenplay. Kolbrenner and Dean’s film The Gorge was recently released by Apple TV+/Skydance. Day Drinker is executive produced by 30WEST. Lionsgate will present Day Drinker in association with 30WEST. The film is a Thunder Road / IN.2 production.

EPs also include Dan Friedkin, Micah Green, Daniel Steinman, Stephen Deuters, Jason Forman, Sam Sarkar, Webb, Eric Sherman, Sarah Hong, Scott LaStaiti, Christopher Woodrow, Connor DiGregorio, and Adrián Guerra.

“I’m excited to be starting production with Johnny, Madelyn, Penelope, and this incredible cast,” said Webb. “We’re in a beautiful location with a fantastic crew and a thrilling, ferocious story to tell.  This is gonna be fun.”

Chelsea Kujawa is overseeing the project for Lionsgate. The deals for Ríos, Piper, Botto, and Boyle were overseen for the studio by Dan Freedman.

The film marks the second recent collaboration between Lionsgate and 30WEST, who are also teaming for Power Balladdirected by John Carney, written by Carney and Peter McDonald, and starring Paul Rudd and Nick Jonas.

Ríos recently starred opposite Day Drinker co-star Piper in the hit Netflix series Elite. He also stars in Netflix’s Breathlesswhich will soon debut its second season. He also stars the film My dear ladya remake of the 1972 Spanish film directed by Fernando Gonzalez Molina, which will debut in the next months.

Piper has also starred in such series such as The silence and The disorder you leave. He recently starred in the feature film The Courier and plays a leading role in The truce.

Botto’s movie credits include The Room Next Door, En Los Margenes (On the Fringe)and The Suicide Squad; the television series Good Behavior, White Linesand I Don’t Like Drivingand his one-man play, A moonless night (A Moonless Night).

Boyle played Alice Creel in the original cast of the West End production of Stranger Things: The First Shadow. She plays Violetta in the upcoming Channel 4 six-part drama Summerwater. Day Drinker reps her feature film debut.
