Jason Kelce reveals why he needed a police escort after ‘big mistake’ during Eagles Super Bowl parade

Jason Kelce revealed on the latest episode of New Heights that a ‘big mistake’ led to him getting a police escort during the Eagles Super Bowl parade.
Kelce, who starred for the franchise for 13 seasons and still lives in the Philadelphia area, was downtown for the parade as the team’s 40-22 win over the Chiefs was celebrated.
But things went slightly awry when Kelce and ex-Eagles teammate Brent Celek deviated from the parade route.
‘We went on a different route,’ Kelce began. ‘We were like, ‘Alright, we’re not gonna go on the buses, we’re just gonna kind of meet those guys down there.”
The former center explained that the pair went to the oldest bar in the city, McGillin’s, and tried to walk to the Philadelphia Museum of Art steps (where the parade ended) from there.
‘Big mistake, nearly impossible,’ Kelce said. ‘We got chauffeured there by some cops and stuff like that, found our way there.’

Kelce added during the episode that he was able to catch up with the Eagles players before the parade at Lincoln Financial Field, and gushed about the event overall.
‘Philadelphia knows how to do parades,’ said Kelce, who got to experience one as a player in 2018 after the Eagles beat the Patriots.
‘There’s a few things they know how to do extremely well – parades is one of them… it was absolutely electric.’
He continued, ‘There’s something so incredible about sharing in a moment with that many people. Like millions of people are lining one street in Philadelphia and down at the Art Museum steps. And it’s so apparent how much joy and pleasure you as a football player … was able to provide for an entire city.’
Kelce was seen enjoying himself during the parade as he arrived with a beer in hand when he arrived just after 12pm.
The franchise icon got a warm reception from fans and lifted his cap in the air in appreciation.
Kelce played his entire career with Philadelphia after being drafted by the team in the sixth round of the 2011 NFL Draft.
And the Cleveland Heights, Ohio native became a fan favorite, earning seven Pro Bowl selections before hanging up his cleats following the 2023 season.
