"ISESCO": Registration of 91 historical sites and cultural elements on heritage lists in the Islamic world

 In the final report of its 12th meeting, the Heritage Committee in the Islamic World announced the registration of 91 historical sites and cultural elements on ISESCO’s lists of heritage in the Islamic world. These sites and elements are distributed on the final and preliminary lists of tangible and intangible heritage. The number of sites and elements registered on ISESCO’s lists reached 724 sites and elements.

A statement by ISESCO said on Thursday that the Heritage Committee in the Islamic World approved, after studying the files submitted by ISESCO member states, to register their heritage, where 69 sites were registered. A historical and cultural element on the final list, in 23 countries: Jordan, the Emirates, Uzbekistan, Bangladesh, the Sultanate of Oman, Nigeria, Palestine, Egypt, Morocco, Mauritania, Iran, Burkina Faso, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Brazil, Russia, Afghanistan, Guinea, And Iraq, Libya, Mali, Niger, and Syria.

 

The committee also decided to register 22 files on the preliminary list of heritage in the Islamic world, submitted by 4 countries: Uzbekistan and Palestine. , Mauritania, and Egypt.

 

The decisions issued by the Committee at its 12th meeting also included the adoption of the report on the activities of the ISESCO Center for Heritage in the Islamic World for the year 2024, the Center’s vision for the next two years, and the methods and operations document. Proposed for registration on the Heritage List in the Islamic World, the document for activating the “Fund for Supporting Heritage Projects in the Islamic World”, the Green Heritage Document, the Document for Museums and Illicit Trafficking in Cultural Property, the Document for Establishing the Cultural and Intellectual Register of the Islamic World, and the Document for Developing Heritage Work in the Islamic World.

 

He added that at the conclusion of the meeting, which was hosted by the city of “Shusha” In Azerbaijan on October 8 and 9, as part of its celebration as the Capital of Culture in the Islamic World for the year 2024, the committee issued a number of recommendations, most notably the call to develop a number of programs aimed at educating officials, students and youth about the importance of cultural heritage, and holding intensive training courses for workers at the sites. Heritage sites and museums in member states, submitting more files for registration on heritage lists in the Islamic world, and calling for the preparation of a strategy to introduce heritage sites and cultural elements registered on the final list, updating them using alternative means and modern technological means, and enriching the heritage portal in the Islamic world.
