Indonesian President: We are centrist and moderate Muslims and this approach must be maintained

Indonesian President, Prabowo Subianto, said that he agreed with President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to continue cooperation between the two countries. To consolidate and develop bilateral relations in various fields, noting that his country will send a high-level diplomatic mission to communicate with the Egyptian government in this regard, indicating that there is a joint committee between the two countries in the field of trade, and that Indonesia seeks to enhance cooperation more and more in this field. 

Subianto – during a joint press conference with the President after Al-Fattah Al-Sisi at the Ittihadiya Palace following the discussions between them – expressed his gratitude for the presence of 15,000 students. Indonesians studying in Egypt, most of them at Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, stressing the need to maintain the promotion of the moderate approach to Islam and spread the culture of moderation and tolerance, and an Islam that respects all religions and the entire world and “is not intolerant and full of hatred.”

The Indonesian president continued, saying: “We are centrist and moderate Muslims, and this must be preserved and this approach and ideology promoted to combat extremism and Islamophobia.” And defuse strife, to spread Islam, which calls for peace.” 

 

He expressed his thanks to President Sisi for the good welcome to all Indonesian students in Egypt, adding that he is considering sending more Indonesian students come to Egypt to study in various fields.
