India Australia ties: Prime Minister Modi & Australian PM Albanese reaffirm focus on defence cooperation
At the second India-Australia Annual Summit, held on the sidelines of the G20 Summit, the two leaders also reaffirmed their commitment to advancing the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership across diverse areas, including defence and security, trade and investment, education, skills, sports, space, mobility and people-to-people ties. “India and Australia have shared ambition to move faster, work together and deploy our complementary capabilities to drive climate action,” they said in a joint statement.
Modi and Albanese “expressed intent to strengthen the Joint Declaration on Defence and Security Cooperation in 2025 to reflect ambition in both countries’ elevated defence and security partnership,” the statement said. They “looked forward to a long-term vision of defence, security collaboration between the two countries to enhance collective strength, contribute to both countries’ security, and make an important contribution to regional peace and security.” Modi said Albanese “has assured me of his commitment to the interests of the Indian community, especially Indian students.”
“We have been working together to promote peace, stability and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific, and we will continue to do so,” PM Modi said.
