Inclusion of 42 Egyptian universities in the 2024 edition of the Times (THE) classification of Arab universities
The Times Higher Education Foundation announced the results of the 2024 edition of the classification for the Arab region, and the results showed the inclusion of 42 Egyptian universities in the classification.
The Foundation’s report praised the continuous improvement in the quality of higher education in Egypt, By improving scientific research and enhancing internationalization and international partnerships, noting the diversity of Egyptian universities and their continued development process.
The results showed that Cairo University topped the list of listed Egyptian universities. In the classification, followed by the American University in Cairo, then Ain Shams University, Alexandria University, Mansoura University, and Al-Azhar University.
The results also showed the inclusion of The Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport, the Egyptian-Japanese University of Science and Technology, Assiut University, Beni Suef University, Zagazig University, Tanta University, Zewail City of Science and Technology, Benha University and Kafr El-Sheikh University.
The classification also included Aswan University. , Future University, Helwan University, Suez Canal University, Fayoum University, and Minya University.
Damietta University, Delta University of Science and Technology, German University in Cairo, and University of Menoufia, New Valley University, Nile University, Port Said University, the British University in Cairo, Sohag University, South Valley University, Sadat City University, Damanhour University, Suez University, October University for Modern Sciences and Arts, and Misr University for Science and Technology.
The results also showed that Badr University, Al-Arish University, Deraya University, Egyptian-Russian University, 6th of October University, and Pharos University were included for the first time in the classification.
It was launched Times Higher Education published this version of the classification for Arab countries 3 years ago, and it relies in evaluating Arab universities on the same axes as the international classification, which are five main axes that include: the scientific research axis, which is concerned with the quality, volume, and impact of research, the axis of the educational environment and its quality, The societal impact axis measures contribution to the local and regional community, in addition to the internationalization axis, which includes: Cooperation with international universities, the proportion of international students and employees, and the axis of application in industry, which specializes in cooperation with companies and industrial fields. This year’s classification evaluation included 238 institutions from 16 Arab countries.
It is noteworthy that the strategy adopted by the Ministry of Higher Education was It has had a great impact in achieving this remarkable progress, as the Ministry paid special attention to international publishing in major scientific journals, in addition to providing technical support to educational institutions and research centers, and financial support to researchers. It also worked to cooperate with researchers from Different countries of the world, and attention to the quality of joint research that receives a large number of citations, which contributes to its publication in high-impact journals.
Continuous follow-up of international classifications and the progress of Egyptian universities in them is an indication of the steps taken by the Ministry within The National Strategy for Higher Education and Scientific Research that it launched, and its seven principles, including the principle of international reference.
It is also worth noting the role of the Egyptian Knowledge Bank in providing vast scientific resources to Egyptian researchers and scientists, which contributed to strengthening scientific research in Egypt. Empowering research institutions To become internationally known, and to advance the classification of universities, institutions, and research centers internationally, in addition to the efforts exerted by the Egyptian Universities Classification Committee team in tracking the various standards for international classifications, and this comes in line with achieving Egypt’s vision for sustainable development 2030, which aims to be an international reference in order to create a generation of Graduates of Egyptian universities are able to make a breakthrough in all fields.
