I starred with Julia Roberts in 90s classic before switching to iconic TV show – can you guess who I am?’

An acclaimed actress who played Julia Roberts’ best friend in one of her classic movies was unrecognizable when she surfaced this week.

She began her career in theater and TV before achieving her breakthrough in the 1989 movie Sex, Lies And Videotape.

One year later, she had a supporting role in a beloved movie that catapulted Julia to her position as ‘America’s Sweetheart.’

Later in the 1990s, she switched back to TV with the lead role on a long-running sitcom from one of the eventual creators of Modern Family.

When she was spotted in Los Angeles this week, she cut a stylish and youthful figure – but her blonde locks were a far cry from her hairdo in her best-known film.

Can you guess who she is?

The actress in question is Laura San Giacomo, who featured in the 1990 romantic comedy Pretty Woman as the roommate of the Julia Roberts character.

Julia led the movie as street walker Vivian Ward, while Laura played her acid-tongued pal Kit De Luca, who was her mentor when she first joined the oldest profession.

Pretty Woman, a love story between Vivian and a tycoon played by Richard Gere, proved to be a thunderous box office smash that made Julia a superstar.

Laura stepped out in Los Angeles on April Fool’s Day wearing a fashionable ensemble that included a baggy set of charcoal cargo-jeans.

She draped her still enviably lithe torso in a cream V-neck tunic, which she tucked partly in, emphasizing her trim waistline.

During her latest sighting, Laura sported a youthful dirty blonde hairdo that stood in striking contrast to her dark locks in Pretty Woman.

She first achieved widespread acclaim for the 1989 indie film Sex, Lies And Videotape, directed by Steven Soderbergh, who went onto make Ocean’s Eleven.

Amid a cast that included James Spader and Andie MacDowell, Laura proved a standout presence, winning an Independent Spirit Award for her performance.

By the following year she had broken decisively into the mainstream with her role in Pretty Woman alongside Julia and Richard Gere.

In 1997, she began playing the lead role of a smart-aleck journalist on Just Shoot Me!, a sitcom that ultimately ran a whopping seven seasons until 2003.

Created by Steven Levitan – who went onto be one of the two creators of Modern Family – the show earned Laura a Golden Globe nomination.

She took the job on the network sitcom because she wanted to stay in one place in order to care for her newborn son Mason, who has cerebral palsy.

Laura welcomed Mason with her first husband, Valley Girl actor Cameron Dye, whom she was married to from 1990 until 1998.

Since 2000, she has been happily married to another actor called Matt Adler, who featured in such 1980s films as Teen Wolf and Dream A Little Dream.

Her most recent work includes her regular role of Rhetta Rodriguez on the drama Saving Grace from 2007 to 2010 and portraying Dr. Grace Confalone on NCIS.

She appeared on NCIS between 2016 to 2024.
