I left Canada to live in Australia and lasted just three months before deciding to move back… these are the reasons I’m saying goodbye for good

A Canadian woman who arrived in Australia three months ago has revealed the two main reasons she has called it quits and decided to move back home.

Brook Kidd, 20, moved to the Sunshine Coast, in Queensland, with big plans to work and explore what Australia has to offer.

She revealed in a TikTok video she changed her mind after realising how expensive things were and the extreme amount foreigners have to pay for healthcare.

‘This is honestly something that I never thought I would say, but, I’m coming back home,’ Ms Kidd said.

‘I’ve been thinking about this for a couple of weeks now and I just booked my one-way.’

Ms Kidd said everything was much more expensive than she anticipated.

‘Although the wage is better you do need a consistent job to keep you on your feet,’ she said.

Ms Kidd told Daily Mail Australia one type of item in particular took her by surprise.

‘The cost of fruit and vegetables was baffling,’ she said.

She then said the cost of Australian healthcare for foreigners is one key consideration some travellers might not have thought about.

‘Healthcare, it’s not as bad as most places but for foreigners it is pricey,’ she said in the TikTok video.

‘If you are someone that needs consistent visits just be prepared to spend a decent amount of money.

‘If you are someone that is struggling or needs to go to hospital just take that into account first.’

Ms Kidd revealed the cost of healthcare was very different in Canada.

‘It’s extremely accessible and affordable,’ she said.

People in Australia who are not permanent residents are responsible for their own healthcare costs.

Ms Kidd said she should have known before coming to Australia, but was only just realising the severity of the issues.

‘I had heard people say it was pricey, but I definitely was not prepared for it,’ she said.

‘As beautiful as Australia is, I think working holidays are definitely over romanticised online.’

Many social media users extended their sympathies to the young Canadian.

‘So sad that our cost of living is forcing you to leave before you’re ready to, but well done for giving it a go. It’ll be a memory you talk about forever I’m sure,’ one wrote.

‘As an Australian, you are making the right choice,’ another said.

‘It’s sad what has happened to Australia. I always thought I would stay in Australia but now I can’t wait to leave. Such a beautiful place but our leaders are weak and corrupt,’ a third added.

‘Aussie life was good 10 years ago but has taken a very hard turn,’ another said.
