Emily In Paris is one of those shows that feel like a warm, comforting bubble bath. From the gorgeous European locations, the extravagant fashion and the shockingly attractive cast, the series has been a fun lil’ treat ever since it landed on Netflix in 2020 — even if the plot is extremely a tad far-fetched. Thankfully, the series’ creator Darren Star doesn’t want the campy, ridiculous goodness to come to an end any time soon.
When asked how many seasons we could expect from the beloved drama during the season four press junket in Rome, the creator made it clear that he was in it for the long hall.
“As many [seasons] as they’ll have us!” Darren told PEDESTRIAN.TV with a laugh.
“Let’s start with season five and take it from there.”
While his enthusiasm to keep the good times going is a win for Emily In Paris fans, the tres bien series isn’t Darren Star’s first foray into glitzy, female-focused drama.
The acclaimed television writer has made a career for himself by pushing the boundaries to create shows that connect with young people, and more specifically, the girls, the gays and the theys.
From Sex And The City and And Just Like That, to Younger and 90210, the 63-year-old has a knack for writing shows which contain female friendships that feel real and genuine to women around the world. But according to Darren, it’s not something he specifically sets out to do — depicting authentic friendships is just a part of good storytelling.
“I think it just happens. Characters need people to talk to, and I love friendship. Friendship is so important,” he explains.
“Especially in terms of Emily In Paris, when you come alone to a foreign country, the friends you meet become so much more valuable to you.
“At the beginning of the series, I knew that Emily (Lily Collins) and Mindy (Ashley Park) was going to have to be an important relationship. And I wanted Mindy to be somebody who you just fell in love with, like Ashley Park, she’s the friend you would want to have. So I thought that was always going to be a super important piece of the series.”
As it would happen, the friendship between on-screen besties Lily Collins and Ashley Park has blossomed into real life and now, they can’t imagine their lives without each other. Isn’t that sweet?
Emily In Paris season four, part one is currently available to stream on Netflix, with season four, part two hitting the platform on September 12.
