We finally know the reason that genetically blessed couple Kaia Gerber and Austin Butler split up — and it all apparently stems from the meddling of Kaia’s famous parents Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber.
Kaia, 23, and Austin, 33, had been an item since 2021 but their romance reportedly came to an end in late 2024. Now, a source close to the model and actor says that she’s blaming her parents’ meddling for their split after they questioned Austin’s intentions with their daughter.
“What really sealed the deal about the break up is the talk Kaia’s parents had with Austin about his relationship with their daughter,” said the insider, per Daily Mail.
“He didn’t appreciate the fact they butted into their relationship. It rubbed Austin up the wrong way.”
Rumour has it that back in October, Cindy and Rande sat the Elvis actor down for a serious chit-chat to talk about his future with their daughter and when he might propose. The Daily Mail reported that the Hollywood OGs were worried that she was wasting the ‘best years of her life’ and that he wasn’t ready for a commitment.
According to another source, Cindy and Rande now feel terrible about getting involved.
“Kaia’s putting on a brave face in public over the breakup but the truth is she’s upset,” the other insider said.
“She’s partly blaming her parents for the talk they had with Austin telling him he could be wasting the best years of Kaia’s life because he wasn’t making a solid commitment.
“Kaia told her parents they had no right to come between them.”
Kaia and Austin first got together in December 2021 shortly after she split with Jacob Elordi. They hard launched their relationship when they walked the red carpet together at W Magazine’s Oscars pre-party event in March 2022.
Rumours of their split first kicked off in September 2024 after Kaia spent her 23rd birthday without Austin. The split was reportedly confirmed by TMZ in late 2024 however the former couple haven’t publicly commented on their separation.
Personally, I find it very strange that Kaia’s parents decided to get involved in her love life. I hope they’ve taken this whole scenario as a lesson to just let life play out.
