Healthcare receives a delegation from the Iraqi Ministry of Health

The General Authority for Health Care received a delegation from the Iraqi Ministry of Health, including a number of prominent officials, who came to participate in a comprehensive training program aimed at enhancing the administrative and health competencies of workers in the Iraqi health sector, in preparation for the opening of a new hospital in Dhi Qar Governorate, with support from the Cooperation Agency. The Japanese International Cooperation Council (JICA).

 This comes within the framework of strengthening Arab cooperation and exchanging experiences between health institutions.

The delegation included the director of loans in the Iraqi Ministry of Health, the director of patient safety, and the director of a hospital. Al-Shatra, in addition to directors of medical departments, and representatives of JICA Iraq to support technical cooperation.

The Health Care Authority explained that the training program, which extended during the month of October 2024, included a group of lectures and workshops presented by an elite group of experts. And specialists in the health care authority and representatives of the EH-QIPS project.

The authority added that the lectures focused on several basic topics, including: the (5S-KAIZEN) methodology presented by Dr. Marwa Taha, Director General of the General Administration of Quality and Assurance. Quality, which dealt with applying Kaizen principles to improve the efficiency of operations. The management of medical errors and risk management was also discussed, and was presented by Dr. Mai Abu Al-Futouh, General Supervisor of Patient Safety Oversight, where she discussed the importance of reporting and analyzing medical errors. The topic of infection prevention and control (IPC) was presented by Dr. Safaa Ahmed, member of the Infection Control Department, where she presented the latest methods to limit the spread of infection in hospitals. Dr. Ammar Faraj, hospital management specialist, also discussed the basic principles of patient safety and ways to improve the work environment to ensure the provision of safe health care.

The Health Care Authority indicated that, within the training program, field visits were organized for the Iraqi delegation to a number Of the health facilities affiliated with the Authority, including Al-Nasr Specialized Hospital in Port Said and the Ismailia Medical Complex. The delegation had a unique opportunity to learn about the Authority’s experience in applying the best international practices in the fields of quality and patient safety.

Members of the Iraqi delegation praised the Authority’s organizational structure and its ability to build the necessary capabilities to manage change in a short transitional phase since the launch of the health insurance system. Comprehensive. They also expressed their appreciation for the Authority’s efforts to integrate human resources and competencies and direct them towards achieving common strategic goals, which contributed to enhancing the sense of belonging to work.

In this regard, Dr. Ahmed Al-Sabki, President of the Public Authority for Health Care and General Supervisor of Comprehensive Health Insurance Project, saying: “This visit comes within our efforts to strengthen Arab health cooperation and exchange experiences, which contributes to building health and administrative capabilities to support health systems in both Egypt and Iraq. “Exchanging knowledge and experiences with our brothers in Iraq comes within the framework of our strategic vision to develop the health sector in the Arab region and achieve sustainable development.”

He stressed that the success of these training programs reflects the pioneering role played by the Authority in providing an integrated model of health care. It can be used regionally and internationally.

At the conclusion of the training program, a session was held to hand over certificates in the presence of Dr. Amir Al-Talwani, Executive Director of the General Health Care Authority, and Kato, the main representative of JICA Egypt. During the session, the implementation plans for the improvement projects that each trainee will implement in Iraq were reviewed, including the implementation of an electronic reporting system (E-OVR), which won the approval of the participants, in addition to the electronic medical system and the infection control system, which is considered a successful example of the application of technology in Improving the level of health care.

Dr. Al-Sabki concluded by saying: "We look forward to seeing the impact of these training on the ground in Iraq, which contributes to strengthening health care systems and raising the efficiency of the services provided."We hope These programs are an important step towards forming long-term partnerships that will result in improving the quality of Arab health services.

The participants in the program were honored in appreciation of their efforts and their keenness to transfer the acquired knowledge and experiences to their institutions in Iraq, which enhances opportunities for sustainable development. In the Iraqi health sector and strengthens the bonds of health cooperation between Egypt and Iraq to achieve common goals.
