Health: 2.57 million surgeries were performed as part of the presidential initiative to end waiting lists
The Ministry of Health and Population announced the completion of 2 million, 500,758 surgical operations, as part of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s initiative, to end waiting lists and prevent the accumulation of new lists for critical surgical interventions included in the initiative, since its launch in July 2018.< /p>
Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Health and Population, said that the Ministry received 238,928 calls from Patients on waiting lists, through the hotline designated for the initiative, from the beginning of the project until December 11 of this year, indicating that the cases that were followed up from the beginning of July 2023 until December of this year reached 184 thousand and 358 cases.
Abdul Ghaffar explained: The initiative includes surgeries (heart, bone, ophthalmia, tumors, cerebral catheters, cardiac catheterization, brain and nerve catheterization, kidney transplantation, liver transplantation, cochlear implantation, peripheral catheterization), according to the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, and patients are distributed centrally to the hospitals affiliated with the initiative. To ensure that they obtain medical service as quickly as possible.
He added that the services of the President of the Republic’s initiative to end waiting lists are completely free, and the patient does not bear any burdens. Financially, as the initiative is based on alleviating the suffering of those who are unable, and performing urgent and critical surgeries with the highest quality and as quickly as possible.
For his part, Dr. Ahmed Mustafa, Chairman of the General Authority, indicated Health Insurance and Advisor to the Minister of Health for the Initiative to End Waiting Lists, stressed the Ministry’s interest in raising the level of performance in hospitals to provide the best medical services to patients, through continuous training of medical personnel and providing hospitals with the modern supplies and devices necessary to perform surgical interventions, in addition to the continuous development of the system. The initiative’s automation system facilitates the follow-up and extraction of data.
Dr. Dr. Ahmed Mustafa said that the initiative has contributed, since its launch, to activating a unified electronic system, linking the authorities that issue treatment decisions, whether on the State expenses, or health insurance, based on the capacity of each hospital, with the possibility of transferring cases between the sectors providing the service.
