Head of the Statistics Authority: Immigration has become a high-level political issue related to human rights

Major General Khairat Barakat, Head of the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics, confirmed that migration has now become a high-level political issue linked to human rights, development and geopolitics at the national, regional and international levels. From this standpoint, Egypt organized the Second Global Forum on Migration in 2020 with the aim of disseminating experiences. Khairat Barakat added that launching the implementation of the survey It came at an important and significant time, as most of the countries of the developed and developing world alike are affected positively and negatively by migration, whether countries of origin, transit or reception countries, which requires the necessity of cooperation with all countries and parties of the international community to work together to reduce as much as possible the negative aspects. For migration.

 

Barakat considered that these data are used to build development plans and are used as a main tool for planning, monitoring, and developing strategies. These data would contribute to drawing a clearly defined map of the movement of individuals and groups. Across the border.

Barakat pointed out that conducting these surveys is a reflection of the great importance that the Egyptian state and political leadership attaches to its citizens migrants abroad, which allows communication with them, identifying them and their needs, and working to implement them, in addition to data related to With their demographic, social and economic characteristics, as well as their professional and practical characteristics, to benefit from them and integrate them into the development process taking place on the land of Egypt, because it is at the depth of the development process witnessed by the new republic.

 

The head of the agency stressed  We need to strengthen the governance of the migration mobility framework in general, by integrating migrant workers into all areas of development in a way that enhances skills development and establishes links between them and their homelands, and prepares those wishing to migrate to obtain these opportunities in safe ways and a clear path to achieve the principle of linking migration, as an engine of development. When managed in an integrated manner, with the participation of all concerned parties in countries of origin and diaspora.

Major General Khairat Barakat stressed that all parties agree among themselves on the importance of the current stage, and the pivotal role played by our citizens abroad at various levels, as well as what it requires. This stage of exerting more effort and movement towards implementing the presidential directives and the national vision that aims to create a real connection between our citizens abroad and their home country, and is considered an essential part of the connection process, represented in the level of services provided by the concerned national authorities to our citizens abroad and the constant endeavor to develop and improve them, in addition to On the contribution of immigrants through remittances from workers from abroad, which is a major source of income after export revenues for foreign exchange in Egypt and other countries, amid an increasing need for foreign exchange in several economies in the region.
