Grim reality for New York Giants is finally confirmed as disastrous season reaches new low after Cowboys loss

The New York Giants’ disastrous season plumbed new depths on Thanksgiving after they became the first NFL team officially eliminated from playoff contention.

Brian Daboll’s sorry side were condemned to their seventh straight defeat by the Dallas Cowboys, who compounded their misery after running out 27-20 winners at AT&T Stadium.

And as well as extending their miserable losing streak, the Giants’ latest shortcoming also ended their near-impossible playoff hopes for another year.

With a 2-10 record, it is now mathematically impossible for them to finish above the second-place Washington Commanders in the NFC East.

The Commanders boast a 7-5 record, meaning at best the Giants can only finish level with them on 7-10 if they win all five of their remaining fixtures and Washington lose theirs.

However, Jayden Daniels and Co would advance to the postseason in that case as they have the better head-to-head record between the two teams after beating them twice.

It has been another season to forget for the Giants, who will look to kickstart a new era in 2025 after parting ways with former starting quarterback Daniel Jones last week.

After being demoted by Daboll, Jones approached owner John Mara and asked to be released from his contract early, a request which was swiftly accepted amid his underwhelming form.

As the worst team in the league right now, the Giants are currently set to land the first pick in next year’s NFL Draft, meaning they could take the hottest college prospect in 2025.

Though it is unclear whether Daboll will be the man tasked with leading that potential new era after what has been a shambolic campaign.

When asked if he fears owner Mara will no longer trust the process after their latest defeat, the Giants head coach told reporters: ‘No, I don’t like the results. Nobody likes the results. But again, I have confidence in the people. We’ve just got to do better.’

Daboll was then pressed on whether he fears for his job security, before he confidently replied: ‘No.’
