Global Health announces a sharp increase in the number of coronavirus infections

The head of the WHO Technical Group, Maria Van Kerkhove, said during a briefing broadcast on the organization’s YouTube channel that the number of coronavirus infections in the world has increased by 71% over the past week.

According to her, in the Americas, this figure increased by 100%, in the African region – by 7%. At the same time, Kerkhove indicated that the difference may also be due to the frequency and coverage of coronavirus testing in different parts of the world.

In the past week alone, the World Health Organization has reported 9.5 million cases. And we know that this number is higher.
She said that number will be higher next week as more than 2.2 million cases have been reported in the past 24 hours alone.

According to the World Health Organization, the number of confirmed cases of coronavirus infection in the world has exceeded 290 million, and the number of deaths – 5.44 million.

Professor of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Demosthenes Sarians believes that the wave of infection with the new Omicron virus strain will end by February 20, 2022, and this will be the last surge of coronavirus infection.
