Girl, 15, is allegedly raped and robbed at knifepoint in broad daylight at a Sydney train station

A man appeared in court accused of robbing and raping a teenage girl at knifepoint in a train station car park.

Police allege Abdullah Allywa, 37, spoke to a 15-year-old girl at Lidcombe train station in western Sydney before the pair went to a nearby car park at about 10am on Sunday.

The man allegedly produced a knife and stole the girl’s iPhone 11.

Police allege Allywa then sexually assaulted and sexually touched the 15-year-old before she fled the scene.

Local police launched an investigation into the incident with the assistance of Sex Crimes Squad officers.

Inquiries led officers to a Alice Street address in inner-city Newtown on Monday, where Allywa was arrested.

He was charged with aggravated sex assault (victim under the age of 16 years) and robbery armed with offensive weapon.

Allywa was refused bail and appeared in Newtown Local Court on Tuesday.

He’s yet to enter pleas to the charges.

Police allege that Allywa knew the girl had not consented to sexual activity, according to documents tendered to the court.

Allywa’s lawyer told the court that her client had been diagnosed with schizophrenia and an intellectual disability, according to the Daily Telegraph.

She warned he would be ‘particularly vulnerable’ if he remained in custody rather than in the community, where he would be able to see a psychiatrist on a fortnightly basis.

The lawyer also told the court that Allywa cared for several family members and that he would stay away from Lidcombe if he was granted bail.

But the police prosecutor argued that he would be a risk to the community, citing previous convictions, which included offences against victims unknown to him.

The prosecutor alleged that Allywa had a history of using weapons and had ‘little regard for public safety’.

She argued he was a ‘dangerous offender to have in the community’, having previously approached a woman at a train station clutching scissors.

Allywa also previously approached a man with a knife and asked him to ‘suck his c***’, the court heard.

Magistrate Alexander Mijovich refused bail, describing the prosecution’s case as strong and noted Allywa’s lengthy criminal record.

Allywa will reappear in court in April 9.
