Gilmore Girls actress Lauren Graham teases the former co-star she had an undeniable connection with

Lauren Graham has worked with her fair share of famous costars – but there is one with whom she has an undeniable connection.

The 57-year-old appeared on Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy podcast on Wednesday, where she was grilled about her on-set experiences on hit TV shows Gilmore Girls and Parenthood.

‘Is there anything that comes to mind – looking back at your time on that show – is there any memory or story or moment you can share with us that really sticks with you to this day?’ Cooper asked in the episode.

Graham, who famously dated her Parenthood co-star Peter Krause from 2010 to 2022, revealed there is one person she developed a ‘weirdo connection’ with on set: Mae Whitman.

‘There is just a strange thing Mae Whitman and I have,’ the actress explained, describing their interactions as like they are ‘speaking some twin language.’

‘There were many, many scenes with her – almost to the degree that I was like this must stop we cannot continue,’ she reflected.

‘I’d have a tiny little maybe tear in my eye and she’d be like, “no, no, don’t do it, don’t do it,”‘ she laughed.

Graham added Whitman, 36, improvised a line one day which made her emotional.

‘She improvised a line one day where she said she said “you’re my hero” and I’m pretty sure she just like came up with that,’ she shared.

‘We both have tears in our eyes,’ Cooper chimed in.

‘It’s like it’s just a weirdo kind of connection that you know,’ Graham said emotionally.

Whitman played Graham’s on-screen daughter in Parenthood, which ran from 2010 to 2015.

Last month, Graham caught up with Parenthood alum Dax Shepherd on his Armchair Expert podcast to promote her new show, The Z-Suite, where he admitted he was envious over her ‘special’ relationship with Whitman.

During the podcast, Graham spoke about the special relationship she and Whitman have.

‘I’m envious of your relationship with Mae,’ Shepherd said.

‘Really?’ Graham replied.

‘It’s the sweetest relationship,’ Shepard said. ‘It really is a special.’

‘It really is,’ Graham agreed. ‘Like, I still get a little, like, thrill when she’ll text me back, because it’s not a given.’

‘And she’s a mom now, and she’s working, and she’s in Ireland,’ the Gilmore Girls veteran said.

‘She’s hard to pin down,’ Shepherd agreed.

‘If I can get her, I’ll be like, you know, panic text her to, you know, just get as much out as I can,’ she explained. ‘It is really a special relationship and I feel really thankful for it.’

Shepherd, 50, starred as Graham’s brother on the popular drama for five seasons.
