Gianluigi Donnarumma dubbed ‘the invisible hand’ in the French press and handed brutal rating after another PSG horror show

PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma has come under fire in the French media for his part in in Atletico Madrid’s last-gasp winner at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday night.

The Ligue 1 giants’ disappointing Champions League campaign continued as a second defeat in four matches left them in the elimination zone.

Warren Zaire Emery’s opener was quickly cancelled out by the visitors’ Nahuel Molina in the first half of a largely underwhelming match.

But there was drama at the death as Angel Correa finished off a counter in the last minute of added time to silence the home crowd and see Diego Simeone’s side claim all three points thanks to a 2-1 win.

The Argentine received the ball on the right hand side of the area before cutting on to his left and just about managing to squeeze past Donnarumma, who got plenty of his hand to the ball.

The French press think Gianluigi Donnarumma should have done better with Atletico’s winner

It was by no means an unstoppable effort from Correa and French outlet L’Equipe were not impressed with Donnarumma’s attempt to keep it out.

A headline dubbed the Italian ‘the invisible hand’ while he was given a rating of just 3/10 for his performance on the night.

They added that it was a goal that he ‘could and should have saved’ and that a ‘goalkeeper in Europe’s top eight should not be doing that’.

L’Equipe also believe that it is a mistake that could now lead to questions about his position as No 1.

They wrote: ‘It was on a strike, where he usually appears the most reliable, that Donnarumma’s evening turned upside down. And his season with it? It is much too early to say. But it will inevitably feed into the ongoing reflection of the Parisian staff on this position.’

Russian stopper Matvei Safonov joined in the summer and has played three matches but L’Equipe think manager Luis Enrique would be unwise to drop Donnarumma as he has become ‘one of the figures of the group’ and it would ‘create a hotbed of tension.’

Things are going far more smoothly for Les Parisians in Ligue 1 with Enrique’s men sitting six points clear at the top after 10 games.
