Get to know the governors of Luxor since it was officially declared a governorate in 2009… 8 x 15 years

More than 15 years have passed since a presidential decree was issued to establish Luxor Governorate, after it was a city of a special nature and belonged to Qena Governorate before that date. Luxor Governorate celebrates the governorate’s National Day, which has been officially changed since 2015 from December 9, the anniversary of Luxor being officially declared a governorate, to November 4th marks the most famous anniversary of the discovery of the Little King’s tomb.

In this regard, “The Seventh Day” monitors the list of governors who led the General Office of Luxor Governorate from 2009 until now, as since the issuance of the Republican decision in 2009 to establish Luxor as a governorate after it was a city with a special character, and since then the people of Luxor have been celebrating National Day on December 9 of each year, until May 20, 2015, when the Council of Ministers agreed to change the date of celebrating the governorate’s National Day to November 4 of Every year, it is the day that marks the anniversary of the discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb.

Since Luxor was officially declared a governorate, 8 governors have been appointed, the first of whom is Major General Samir Farag, who held the position of governor from December 9, 2009 until April 15, 2011. He accomplished much, much during that period, and he was planning for Luxor to become an open museum. The second governor is Major General Khaled Fouda, who took over. The position followed the January 25, 2011 revolution, from April 16, 2011 until August 8, 2011 and after. He assumed the responsibility of the governor of South Sinai. The third was Ambassador Ezzat Saad from August 4, 2011 until June 16, 2013. The fourth was engineer Adel Asaad Al-Khayyat, one of the founders of the Islamic Group in Sohag Governorate, who was prevented from entering the Luxor governor’s office due to his participation in the incident at the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut, and the fifth was the governor. Major General Tariq Saad El-Din from August 2013 until February 2015.

And the sixth governor, Mohamed Badr, since February 7, 2015, for a period of three years. He had achievements in the tourism sector and supported villages and hamlets. He contributed to the separation of Luxor University, the entry of industrial projects and the industrial city in Al-Baghdadi, the series of distinguished tourism conferences around Luxor, and the selection of Luxor at that time as the capital of world tourism.

As for the seventh governor, who has been in office for the longest period in Luxor Governorate, lasting 5 full years, he is Chancellor Mostafa Elham, who assumed the position on August 30, 2018, and came during the period of plans to open the national project to revive the Pharaonic Rams Road, develop the Nile Corniche and the tourist promenade, and establish Egypt Street. And the construction of the Corniche on the western mainland, the national project for a decent life, and other successes that are still continuing to serve the tourism sector. Which has recovered significantly in the recent period, as well as citizen services, with the arrival of sanitation and natural gas for the first time to a large number of villages in the governorate, until July 3, 2023.

The eighth and final governor currently present is Engineer Abdel Muttalib Amara, who was sworn in before the President of the Republic, and who was recently working as Vice President of the New Urban Communities Authority for the Development and City Development Sector since 2017. Engineer Abdel Muttaleb Mamdouh Amara, the new governor of Luxor, began his working life since He graduated from the Faculty of Engineering at Mansoura University in 1985, then joined the Hassan Allam Contracting Company directly until 1997, and in this year he began his work in societies. Al-Omraniya worked as a facilities implementation engineer at the New Cairo Authority, then director of facilities management in Badr City, supervisor of facilities works in Sadat City, and vice president of Sadat City. He also served as president of the 6th of October City Development Authority, and was a member of the board of directors of Al-Nasr Company for Civil Works, representing Nasr City Company for Housing and Development. Since January 23, 2023.
