Germany prepares to stop importing fuel from Russia

A representative of the German Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Protection said that his country is ready for a possible halt to gas imports from Russia.

He stressed that Germany would supply fuel in the “short and medium term.” Also, the German Cabinet, according to a representative of the Ministry of Economy, is negotiating in order to strengthen its independence from the supply of Russian coal.

The representative of the ministry added that so far no sanctions have been imposed on exporters of Russian food products, and all the existing difficulties are related to logistics.

Earlier, Markus Geerger, managing director of Germany’s Small and Medium Enterprises Association, expressed concerns that companies in the country could go bankrupt due to high energy prices.

Prior to this, Germany’s GASAG announced a 26% increase in gas prices for customers from May 1.
